A Mount Pleasant man is in custody and is facing charges of striking a Mount Pleasant Police officer in the face. According to a news release from the Mount Pleasant Police, a 66-year-old Mount Pleasant man became agitated as officers were directing traffic around a multi-vehicle crash around 1:15 PM at Spring Street and Green Bay Road. The police were first called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection, but according to the news release, within minutes there were two additional accidents in the same area.
According to the news release, as officers were diverting traffic and clearing the intersection, the man who was driving through the area, became agitated with the officers. The report says the 66-year-old began yelling obscenities and creating a public disturbance. As Mount Pleasant Police Officers and Racine County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to restrain the man, he struck one of the officers in the face. The officer was not seriously injured.
The man was eventually taken into custody and was taken to the Racine County Jail. Charges against the man of Disorderly Conduct, Battery of a Police Officer and Resisting or Obstructing have been referred to the District Attorney.
