A Brown Deer police officer is fine after his cruiser was hit during a police chase Wednesday afternoon. The drama began at a parking lot off Highway 100 in Brown Deer where there was an attempted car theft at a TJ Maxx store.

A Brown Deer officer responded, and found the car thanks to the caller's description. The officer attempted to stop the car, but the driver took off and the chase moved across county lines into Mequon. The car, with several suspects inside, sped through a number of subdivisions. The pursuit was terminated after two squads were damaged from the suspect's vehicle.

Tom Dreher, who was driving to a doctor's appointment, said he was almost hit by the getaway car.

"He made a quick turn into my lane to turn into a subdivision and I quick jumped the curb so he wouldn't hit my truck," Dreher added.

The car was found in a cul-de-sac off Port Washington Road. Neighbors heard the crippled car coming down the road and went outside to see what was going on.

"Four black men exit the vehicle and run up that driveway," said one woman as she pointed across the street from her home.

That woman and her husband called the police and directed them to where the car was sitting.

All five suspects, ranging from 16-18 years old, were located and taken into custody. Mequon Police Department is pursuing charges in Ozaukee County.

Two suspects were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
