Racine 14-year-old charged with attempted homicide, caught after taking selfie with gun

RACINE Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 14-year-old is now charged with 1st Degree Attempted Homicide, Substantial Battery, and Criminal Damage to Property following an incident on September 20.

The victim told police that he was in the 2200 block of Lawn Street when the suspect pulled out a silver pistol and fired "at least one shot." The victim allegedly tried to use his vehicle door to stop the bullet but he was struck in the arm.

Officers observed two injuries on the victim's arm, a single hole in his driver side door, and additional gunfire damage to a second vehicle.

According to the criminal complaint, officers obtained surveillance footage from a homeowner nearby. The video showed a group of three men walking down Lawn Street when one pointed a firearm in the direction of the suspect.

The 14-year-old suspect was taken into custody and police searched his phone through a search warrant. There they found a picture of the suspect taking a selfie with a small semi-automatic handgun. The size of the firearm was consistent with the size of the casing recovered at the scene of the shooting.
