Residents Concerned about Crime Increasing After Walmart Closes

It’s closing day for dozens of Walmart’s across the country including 4 in this area. 

The loss of the retailer could hit a north side neighborhood especially hard.

The sign is gone here at the midtown Walmart.

Closing this store means the loss of nearly 300 jobs to an area that desperately needs help.

For many people who live in this part of town it's the place where teenagers get their first job.

When Talgo closed it's operations in Milwaukee after Governor Walker said no to high speed rail in Wisconsin. This store is where some families found jobs to stay afloat.

With employees getting ready to close the doors for good many say this area has seen too many losses in jobs.

Buildings that was once an Office Depot and Lowe's still sit empty here.

And there's not enough public transportation to help people get to other places in town where they can go work.
 

"I’m going to say, when people are hurting, and you take something away, then you already have to look forward to a crime raise higher, more drug selling, more purse snatching, more criminal activity in order to eat,” said Ray Hampton.It’s closing day for dozens of Walmart’s across the country including 4 in this area.
