Updated: Saturday, January 6th 7:05pm:

Widespread snow has come to an end across southeast Wisconsin, but there are still patches of light snow and flurries out there.

The patchy snow will taper to isolated flurries overnight, ending early Sunday morning with no additional accumulation expected. Most spots picked up 1.5" or less today, but a few spots picked up over 2"!

Dry and mainly cloudy the next two days, but all eyes are on a classic Midwest winter storm that'll impact the region on Tuesday. While there are uncertainties in the track of the system and subsequent snow totals, it's very likely we'll pick up several inches of snow and have to deal with strong winds.

Stay tuned for more details on Sunday.

Update As of 9:30 a.m. Saturday, January 6th...

The light snow continues across the metro and will linger into the first part of the afternoon.  Again, watch the subfreezing temps west of the Lake.  This is where we find more slick spots.  Visibility is lower with the fog too, some of which could be freezing.  Please slow it down and use extra caution this afternoon into the evening.  Conditions will improve into tonight and last for a few days before more snow comes our way starting on Tuesday.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58)--It'll be interesting to see what happens to our "snow drought" in this next week.  Currently, for the season, it's sitting at about a foot below average.  With ample opportunity of accumulation coming our way in the next seven days thanks to two to three different systems, we can easily catch up.  It's too soon to talk amounts for what's coming starting on Tuesday.  But I can say the snow on Saturday will add up to about an inch or so.  Watch for a bit of tricky travel, especially away from the lakeside areas where temperatures will hover near freezing for most of the day.

We take a literal breather Sunday and Monday before the pattern really ramps up across the region.  At least two areas of low pressure coming out of the Plains and heading our way will be major players for us.  One will be on Tuesday, the other Thursday into the weekend.  The second will be a longer duration event.  Keep in mind any wobbling of the lows could throw this entire forecast off.  That's why it's crucial you keep checking back, either on air or online, for the latest developments.
