VISIT Milwaukee preview: March 29-31
SOUTHEASTERN WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Both teams came in undefeated, both ranked in the top five, and both eager to claim the title of Brookfield's Best.
The Brookfield East Spartans pumped and ready to go, take on their crosstown rivals and the home team struck first, but the Central Lancers would respond with 20 straight, a botched snap, and a big hit by Jack Cooney giving them great field position. They'd take advantage with another touchdown.
With just three seconds to play in the first half, Central dives deep into the playbook, faking the field goal and connecting on a touchdown strike.
In the second half, the Spartans would fight back within eight, but with time ticking down, the Lancers would go on to win 22-14.
Central has now won the regular season series three years in a row, but East has knocked them out of the playoffs twice in a row. Both teams, seemingly headed for another playoff showdown in a few weeks.
In other games around the area, the Morse-Marshall Eagles win 53-24 against the Washington Purgolders. King wins 58-6 against Vincent. St. Catherine's Angels win it 41 to 35 in overtime against Martin-Luther.
