Man arrested after police locate license plate to stolen car inside passenger compartment

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A man was arrested for multiple warrants out of Fond du Lac County following a traffic stop in the town of Addison.

A deputy stopped a vehicle on I-41 at CTH K around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday after seeing that half of the license plate was missing.

The driver, a 54-year-old Fond du Lac man, told the deputy that someone had cut off his plate in order to steal the expiration sticker.

While the deputy was speaking with the driver, he noticed a different plate inside the passenger compartment.

The plate matched the vehicle that was stopped and was also reported as stolen.

The driver was arrested on multiple warrants, operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent, operation while under the influence of drugs, and possession of a prescription without a valid prescription.

The owners of the vehicle came to the Sheriff's Office and reported that their vehicle was taken along with additional property such as jewelry. The Sheriff's Office confirms that the suspect had some of the items on him during the time of arrest.
