Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office confirms six drug overdose deaths over the weekend

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed six drug overdose deaths over the weekend, an unusually high number.

The victims are five men and a woman. Five of the victims were young adults in their 30s. The sixth was a 55-year-old man.

The Office says five of the deaths are believed to be accidental.

"Never really seen a ton of trends as it relates to a particular time of the year or temperatures or things like that. We tend to get ebbs and flows at unknown, unpredictable times of the year so it's difficult for us to get prepared for those things and to be ready for them when they happen," said Sara Schreiber with the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office.

So far in 2018, there have been 79 confirmed drug overdose deaths in Milwaukee County and 65 possible cases that haven't been confirmed yet. The total is slightly ahead of last year's totals at this time.
