MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In a press conference Thursday afternoon, Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales released the name of the suspect accused of shooting and killed Milwaukee Police Officer Michael Michalski.
30-year-old Jonathan Copeland Jr. is accused in the fatal shooting. He has a lengthy criminal history that includes charges of armed robbery from 2006, theft of a firearm in 2008 and drug possession charges in 2018. In addition, Milwaukee Police say Copeland has an extensive juvenile record.
Officer Michalski was killed with the Special Investigations Unit as they were searching for Copeland on numerous drug and gun charges. Chief Morales said Copeland fired at officers and officers fired back. Copeland was arrested when he ran out of ammunition.
