MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- An event celebrating art and ink is taking over the Baird Center this weekend. The three-day Milwaukee Tattoo Festival has begun with more than 200 artists putting their skills to work.

Getting to meet new people and diving into unique art is what feeds the passions of many artists here.

"I have been tattooing for roughly 20 years or so. Traditionally, I was an artist to start with, and I was getting tattooed. I just kind of fell in love with it and started from there," said Ryan Mireau, one of hundreds of tattoo artists at the event.

Organizers say the event has grown in size over the years. This is the third year of the festival and the first year they are bringing it to Milwaukee. Milwaukee is one of 15 different cities where tattoo festivals will be held this year.

"Milwaukee is one of, if not the most important cities to tattoo in," said Quinn Hurley, director of operations. You must be 18 to get a tattoo, but organizers say it's still a family-friendly event and there will be activities for kids.

"Each day we're going to have a different selection of competitions, which is always really fun," said Hurley. For those hoping to get tatted, this is a one-stop shop and unique opportunity to connect with favorite artists.

"I really wanted to do an Adam and Eve tattoo, and I thought, who would be the perfect artist for it?" said Andrea Salter.

Salter had her eye on a particular artist and came to the event to get a half sleeve. "I love it cause not only do you already see people that you have been following but you get to walk around and see different artwork. They have really cool vendors and stuff like that," said Salter.

The event runs through Sunday. Click here for ticket info and schedule.
