Police Identify 2 Killed in Crash with DPW Truck

CBS 58—Family and friends gathered to remember two people killed in a car crash Thursday at 76th and Sheridan in Milwaukee.

According to the Medical Examiner’s Office 20-year-old Keemari Canady and 21-year-old John Tucker were killed Thursday morning.

“It’s terrible,” said Charlene Martin, Canady’s Grandmother. “I mean that’s my grand baby. My granddaugother. The only granddaughter that I have.”

Canady was a passenger, her boyfriend John Tucker, was driving the car.

“They’re like two peas in a pod,” Martin said. “Where one is, the hter ones there. They can’t be without each other.”

Police estimate Tucker was going between 70 and 80 miles per hour, nearly double the speed limit, when the car smashed in to a DPW truck.

“There's no use of going fast,” Martin said.

The accident prompted police to speak out about the increase in serious crashes-caused by speed.

“We want to encourage all citizens to slow down, especially our young people because we've seen an uptick in young people driving very fast, very erratically,” said Lt. Phil Hanyald, with the Milwaukee Police Department.

As family and friends mourn Canady and Tucker, they are begging people to be cautious on the roads.

“Please slow down,” Martin said through tears. “You only go tone life to live. I can't hear her call me granny. I just wish she was still here.”
