MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee’s Spanish-speaking residents can find solace during the taxing season with the support of La Casa de Esperanza’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, also known as VITA, aimed at easing the tax filing process.
The program is specifically designed to cater financial services to local Hispanic and Latino communities, offering assistance to those who may find navigating tax jargon in their second language to be challenging.
La Casa de Esperanza says that in 2023, they assisted in the preparation of over 1,700 free federal and state tax returns, helping more than $1.9 million in tax refunds be distributed within local communities.
Those in need of a helping hand can access these services by visiting La Casa de Esperanza’s website to schedule a free tax appointment or by contacting them at (262) 832-1534. They say that their goal is to offer financial advice that is linguistically accessible but also culturally sensitive to the needs of their clients.
As a reminder, the deadline for filing taxes is April 15, but the good news is that those who speak English as a second language do not have to take on the task alone.
