MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Jury selection started Monday, Sept. 23 for a Milwaukee woman who confessed to selling food stamps on an episode of "Judy Justice."
It all started back in December of 2021, when 42-year-old Katrina Weems went on "Judy Justice" over a car dispute. However, during the show the two women unknowingly admitted in court to committing a felony.
According to the criminal complaint, during the show, Weems and Javala Elams indicated they bought and sold food share benefits via Cash App from multiple people.
The suspected scheme caught the attention of state investigators.
In July of 2023, Milwaukee County prosecutors charged Weems with nine counts of money laundering and misuse of the Wisconsin food stamp program, FoodShare.
Weems has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.
Elams was also charged in the case.
In January, Elams pleaded guilty to a felony and a misdemeanor charge of knowingly trafficking food stamps.
Elams has not been sentenced however, she is expected to testify against Weems at trial.
