MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee author James C. Magruder examines the complexities of grief and healing in his latest novel, "The Desert Between Us," and joined us to discuss the book on Monday, March 10.
The novel follows Chase Kincaid, a 37-year-old widower struggling with the loss of his wife, Aimee, who died of a heart attack two years earlier. As a single father, Kincaid has focused on raising his son while setting aside his own emotional recovery. His perspective shifts when he meets Sierra Taylor, his son’s third-grade English teacher, who reawakens feelings he thought were lost.
Magruder said the book was inspired by his father’s experience of losing his wife to cancer early in life. He described the novel as a story of hope and healing, exploring the challenges of moving forward after loss.
