Neenah man charged in homicide of Cashay Henderson in Milwaukee

NEENAH, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Neenah man is facing criminal charges in connection to the homicide of 31-year-old Cashay Henderson in Milwaukee. 

Cordell Howze, 33, is charged with first degree reckless homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon. 

Henderson's body was discovered at the scene of an apartment fire near 29th and Villard on Feb. 26. 

According to a criminal complaint, a detective located several items including a red gasoline can, bloody blanket, fire extinguisher pin and gas can nozzle, and later determined that the fire was caused by arson.

An autopsy revealed Henderson died of multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death was homicide.

The criminal complaint says authorities spoke to an individual who said he drove Howze from Neenah to Milwaukee on Feb. 25 before driving back to Neenah alone. 

The man said on the night of Feb. 27, Howze showed up at his home in Neenah without calling. He said Howze was waiting outside when the man's wife arrived home, and Howze pointed a firearm at her head. The man said when he got home, Howze was in his living room armed with a handgun with a green laser beam and an extended magazine. He said Howze was "acting strange" and had a blank stare on his face. 

The man told officials Howze showed him a video of what appeared to be a dead woman, and stated, "I caught a body of a disgusting [expletive]." He said Howze also stated that he wanted to kill several other people. 

Police also spoke with a woman who stated that Howze was "making paranoid statements" and that he told her he had "popped" a [expletive] in Milwaukee. 

Howze was arrested in Menasha on Feb. 28 following a brief pursuit.

He was convicted of battery/threat to a judge, prosecutor of law enforcement officer in August of 2021 in Outagamie County. He also has prior felony convictions in Milwaukee County for armed robbery and in Waukesha County for felony theft. 

Court records show a doctor's report is expected March 20 to determine whether Howze is competent to proceed.
