Wisconsin high school teams soar in a machine competition focused on space technology
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Five high school teams from Wisconsin have secured their spots in the Engineering Machine Design Championship after excelling in the regional competition hosted by STEM Forward on Friday, March 24.
The contest, held at Milwaukee's Discovery World, tasked teams with designing and building complex machines using everyday objects to accomplish a simple task.
This year's theme, Transforming Space Technology, allowed students to explore STEM principles in a fun and collaborative environment, according to a press release from STEM Forward on Wednesday, March 29.
The top five teams advancing to the championship are Waunakee High School's Team Flat Earthers and Team Dark Voyagers, Pius XI High School's Team Space XI and New Berlin Eisenhower High School's Team Purple and Team Gold.
The championship event will take place at Anoka Technical College in Anoka, Minn. on April 21.
STEM Forward's press release noted that the competition aims to foster interest in STEM fields among high school students and develop the skills of future STEM leaders.
