MADISON, Wis. (CHANNEL 3000) -
Six people, including a 10-year-old, were rescued from Lake Monona just after midnight Sunday after their boat capsized, Dane County officials said.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Department marine and trail team was called to Lake Monona around 12:05 a.m. for a capsized boat and stranded boaters in the water, according to a release.
Deputies, along with the Department of Natural Resources, and Monona and Madison fire crews responded to the lake to search for the boat, officials said.
The boat had seven occupants in it when it capsized, according to the release. One of the stranded boaters was able to swim to the shore and alert authorities.
Deputies found the other six stranded boaters about one mile offshore from Tonyawatha Trail, officials said.
Three of the boaters were still in the water clinging to the boat and three others, including the 10-year-old, were on top of the capsized boat, according to the release. No one was injured.
