When is the 2024 U.S. presidential election?

The election will take place Tuesday, Nov. 5. 

Other important dates:

• Deadline to register to vote by mail or online: Wednesday, Oct. 16
• Regular in-person voter registration deadline: Friday, Nov. 1
• Deadline to request an absentee ballot: 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31
• Deadline to return an absentee ballot to your municipal clerk: 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 5

What to bring to the polls

Voters will need to show a valid photo ID.

If registering to vote on-site, you'll need to provide a copy of a document proving you live in Wisconsin, such as a pay stub or recent utility bill. 

How do I register to vote?

You can check your voter registration status and register to vote online on the MyVote Wisconsin website, HERE. You can register online or by mail up to 20 days before the election. 

If registering by mail, forms should be printed, signed and mailed to your municipal clerk. 

You can also register in-person in your municipal clerk's office up until 5 p.m.- or close of business - the Friday before the election. 

You can register in-person at the polls until 8 p.m. on Election Day. Proof of address, like a utility bill or pay stub, is always required to register.

You can find your polling location by clicking here and entering your address. Be sure to bring an acceptable photo ID.

When are polls open?

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. If you're in line by 8 p.m., you will still be able to vote. 

Absentee voting

Registered Wisconsin voters can vote early at their municipal clerk's office before Election Day. You can find an absentee voting location based on your address, by clicking here.

The last day the clerk offers in-person voting can vary based on municipality, but the first day it may begin is Tuesday, Oct. 22. All in-person voting must end by Sunday, Nov. 3. 

You can also request an absentee ballot by mail on myvote.wi.gov, and mail in your completed ballot or drop it off at your clerk's office, polling place or absentee counting location.
