80-year-old pedestrian dies after collision, driver charged with operating without license

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An 80-year-old woman was taken to a Milwaukee hospital after being hit by a car on Sept. 1 before dying from her injuries four days later. The victim reportedly walked at a crosswalk near 6th and Lapham despite there being a green light for oncoming drivers.

A 20-year-old Milwaukee woman was the driver in the car that ultimately struck the pedestrian and is now facing charges related to the death because officials claim that the accused has never had a valid driver's license. 

Investigators say 20-year-old Lucero Jimenez-Gallegos was behind the wheel of the striking vehicle. She remained at the scene following the crash.

According to the criminal complaint, Jimenez-Gallegos stated she went through the intersection with a green light when the victim was walking. Jimenez-Gallegos, according to the complaint, stated she thought she was going 30 mph before she tried slowing down before ultimately striking the victim. 

Officials say Jimenez-Gallegos was traveling to work at the time of the crash. 

Jimenez-Gallegos has been charged with one count of knowingly operate a motor vehicle without a valid license - causing death. 

She's due in court for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 20.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An 80-year-old woman has died after being hit by a car last Friday, Sept. 1. 

Police say the woman was walking in the crosswalk near 6th and Lapham just before 6:30 p.m. when she was hit by a car.

Officials say the woman was taken to an area hospital and died of her injuries Sept. 5. 

The driver remained on-scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
