Advocate Aurora vaccinates 1,250+ adolescents 1st day of distribution for kids ages 12-15
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In the fight against the pandemic, Advocate Aurora Health vaccinated 1,276 adolescents ages 12 to 17 against COVID-19 Thursday, May 14.
The vaccinations were distributed the day after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s formal recommendation to extend vaccine use to younger adolescents Wednesday evening.
“We’re thrilled so many young people and their families took this important step so quickly,” said Dr. Robert Citronberg, executive medical director of infectious disease and prevention at Advocate Aurora Health. “By getting vaccinated, adolescents are protecting themselves, their loved ones and their communities—and paving the way for a great summer and a return to in-person schooling.”
Lauryn Metzger, 14, was vaccinated and says her friends are going to follow suit.
“I’m excited,” said Lauryn. “I talked to my friends about it and they’re excited to get the vaccine, too.”
Another 2,955 appointments for 12- to 17-year-olds are slated through Sunday, May 16, with more being scheduled all the time.
