AG Kaul announces dashboard tracking use of force and arrest-related deaths
WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Department of Justice has launched a new dashboard to track use of force by law enforcement and arrest-related deaths in the state.
The attorney general says it's part of an effort to become more transparent.
“The release of this data marks the first time that our state government has made comprehensive, statewide use-of-force data available to the public. This information will allow for a more comprehensive, evidence-based understanding of use-of-force incidents in Wisconsin,” said AG Kaul. “Thank you to the law enforcement agencies across the state whose commitment to transparency has ensured that use-of-force data for agencies serving 99% of Wisconsinites will be publicly available.”
According to the data, 13 people were killed across the state in arrest-related incidents with law enforcement in 2021.
Of those, nine happened here in Southeastern Wisconsin.
The data also shows in 83% of cases, officers did fire their guns.
