RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The City of Racine swore in a new police chief.
Alexander Ramirez has been serving as an interim police chief since July, after the former chief stepped down.
Last month he was voted into the role as a permanent position.
Ramirez says the people within the department helped make the transition into his role easier, and his top priority is the safety of the community.
"I have a lot of law enforcement partners, community programmers, community partners, governmental, non-governmental agencies that we want to all work together to help those in need, those are at risk, and hopefully to break the cycle of violence," said Ramirez.
Ramirez is the first Latino chief for the Racine Police Department.
