Alexander Ramirez voted in as Racine police chief

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The city of Racine's search for a new police chief is over.

Alexander Ramirez gets the job.

Ramirez has been serving as interim chief in Racine since July, when Maurice Robinson stepped down. Yesterday, on Nov. 2, the city's police and fire commission voted to make Ramirez the permanent chief, effective immediately. He is the first Latino chief of Racine.

There will be a formal swearing-in ceremony for Ramirez, but the date has not been determined yet.
