Alligator found swimming in Lake Michigan

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (CBS 58) -- A caiman, which is a reptile similar to an alligator, was found swimming in Lake Michigan. 

It was captured Monday morning in Waukegan after a man reported what he saw, officials say.

The reptile was quickly transported to the Wildlife Discovery Center in Lake Forest, Illinois. 

"It's not everyday someone reports an alligator in Lake Michigan and the report is true," the City of Waukegan said in a Facebook report.

The city also thanked the person who reported in, Waukegan Police Animal Control, and the staff at Larsen Marine Service.
