Ascension Wisconsin launches free heart health screening program

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – More than 2,000 people will be able to get free heart health screenings. It’s part of Ascension Wisconsin’s new community wellness program called “Be of Good Heart.”

The program is partnering with 90 Milwaukee-area urban church congregations to provide screenings for hypertension and diabetes.

“We know that in the African American community, hypertension is a lot of times undiagnosed or sometimes diagnosed and not treated well or managed well,” says community nurse Julia Means.

The Be of Good Heart program will also educate about other heart diseases and give health coaching so people can manage hypertension or diabetes.
