MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Enhancing safety measures, bullet resistant glass has been installed in all Milwaukee Police Department districts.

The installation of 1 1/4-inch thick glass was completely funded by donations from former Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, Dennis Klein, and Frank P. Crivello, Founder and Chairman of Phoenix Investors.

The bullet resistant glass with provide both citizens and police officers enhanced safety when they enter police districts.

The glass was installed after a man walked into District 5 earlier this year and opened fire on officers. The man was retaliating the death of Keishon Thomas, who died in police custody a week earlier.

“I understand the value of a well-resourced department, and took the opportunity to help in a way that does not drain their budget. The challenges our department faces today are unprecedented. The need for all of us to be part of the solution is, as well," Abele said.
