Matt Carlino gave Marquette basketball the good story they've been searching for, scoring 38 points and hitting 8 three-pointers as the Golden Eagles held off Georgia Tech 72-70 in the opening round of the Orlando Classic at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
Carlino had five threes before the half, then kept hitting shots from beyond the arc in the second half. He finished with more than half of his team's point total. Juan Anderson had 12 for the Golden Eagles, who had narrowly beaten NJIT earlier this week after a loss to Nebraska-Omaha last weekend.
Marquette faces 20th ranked Michigan State in the second round of the Orlando Classic Friday.
