Corey Clement named to Big Ten preseason honors list for second straight year

Wisconsin senior running back Corey Clement was among the 10 Big Ten Conference players to earn preseason recognition Monday in conjunction with the start of Big Ten Media Days in Chicago.

A select media panel chose this year’s 10-member preseason list, including five representatives each from the East and West divisions.

Clement enters his senior season looking to regain the form he showed at running back before being slowed by an injury last season that limited him to just 48 rushing attempts for 221 yards and five touchdowns. The Glassboro, New Jersey, native saw action in only four games in 2015.

As a sophomore, Clement rushed for 949 yards and nine TDs as the backup to Gordon, averaging 6.5 yards per carry. That came on the heels of an impressive debut season in 2013 in which he recorded 547 yards on just 67 carries (8.2 average) as UW's No. 3 tailback behind Gordon and James White.

Clement has been named to watch lists for both the Maxwell Award and Doak Walker Award this summer.

A Big Ten preseason honoree for the second-consecutive season, Clement joins Iowa senior quarterback C.J. Beathard and senior defensive back Desmond King and Northwestern junior running back Justin Jackson and junior linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. as the featured players from the West Division.
