Crash in Juneau County kills Franklin High School student, four others hurt

JUNEAU COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Franklin community is mourning Thursday after a crash about 20 miles north of Wisconsin Dells killed one high school football player and injured two other students. 

The Wisconsin State Patrol says the three boys were in an SUV that rear-ended another vehicle in the construction zone on I-94 near Mauston in Juneau County around 12:15 Wednesday afternoon.

The group had been returning from Minnesota. The Franklin Public School District released the following statement on the crash:

"At this time, the police are still investigating the accident that took place yesterday afternoon that seriously injured two of our students and took the life of another student. Once the police report is public, we will send that to you. Our Superintendent, Dr. Judy Mueller, says, “Our hearts go out to the families and all of our community who are impacted by this tragic event that has taken the life of one of our students and seriously injured two others. For the remainder of the week, our Student Services staff will be providing support to staff, students, and families at Franklin High School. We join our community in supporting the families during this difficult time and offer our deepest condolences.”

The two people in the other vehicle, a mother and her teenage daughter had minor injuries.
