Dane County Sheriff's deputies intervene in jail suicide attempt

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Dane County Sheriff's deputies intervened in a suicide attempt by an inmate housed in the City County Building Jail.
It happened shortly before 8 p.m. on Thursday.
Deputies observed an inmate using a broken object to cut his arm. The deputies immediately intervened and placed a tourniquet on the inmate's arm to stop the bleeding.
The inmate is a 30-year-old man. He was transported to a local hospital to undergo treatment. When he returns he will be monitored under suicide precaution protocols.
The inmate has been in the jail since February and is being held on federal charges for a sex offense.
