Dipped in chocolate: Freese's Candy Shoppe shows off Easter treats
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Freese's Candy Shoppe is celebrating one year at the Milwaukee Public Market. It doesn't sound like a lot compared to the 97 years it's been serving chocolate and candy confections to people in West Allis.
For Wendy Matel, it's been a way to meet new faces and introduce her sweet treats to new customers, especially as the Easter bunny hops into town.
"This is my favorite holiday. I love it. It's so pretty," said Matel. "All the colors. I love the candy we make for Easter; it's my favorite. We have the molds from 1930. They're old-fashioned molds. They're solid, they make beautiful bunnies."
From solid chocolate bunnies to whipped cream eggs, the shelves are stocked with the favorite spring treats right now.
"We make about 30,000 whipped cream and cream eggs all by hand. So, it's a lot of work, but it's so fun," said Matel.
The most popular eggs are filled with a house-made whipped cream mixture. Freese's also has the old traditional cream eggs with a lava-like filling.
