MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Resources are available across southeastern Wisconsin to support the community following historic flooding in the area. Updates to the following list will be provided when new information becomes available.

211 says to save receipts and document damage by taking photos as this will be important if financial assistance becomes available.


Wisconsin Emergency Management has information on how to apply for the Individuals and Households Program, meant to offer rental help, home repair grants and more.

The Wisconsin Department of Children and Families has information on applying for emergency assistance to families that have faced emergencies.

FoodShare Wisconsin is available to help low-income families and individuals buy nutritious food. 


Milwaukee County

The American Red Cross is providing shelters for impacted residents at:

  • Holler Park, 5151 S. 6th St.
  • Washington Park Senior Center, 4420 W. Vliet St.

Services include meals, water, blankets, comfort kits, charging stations and pet areas. Volunteers also help replace prescription medications, eyeglasses and medical equipment left behind during evacuations.

Free and gently-used clothes are being provided with the help of Father Gene’s Help Center at the shelters.


The following Milwaukee Department of Public Works drop-off centers are available for storm-damaged items. Fees are waived until Sunday, Aug. 17. The centers are located at:

  • South: 3879 W. Lincoln Ave.
  • North: 6660 N. Industrial Rd., enter from Mill Road.

Both locations are open from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.

U-Haul is offering 30 days of free self-storage and U-Box container usage at 11 company locations across the Milwaukee area to assist residents recovering from weekend flooding. Participating locations include:

Wauwatosa

Wauwatosa's Drop Off Center is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., as well as Wednesday until 7 p.m. Fees for flood-related debris drop-offs have been waived.

The city will also not be collecting yard waste during the week, to focus on picking up storm damage debris within the city, including flood-damaged couches and carpet from curbsides.

Pick-up efforts do not include televisions, large gas appliances, propane tanks, explosive of flammable items, wet or oil-based paint, fluorescent light bulbs, hazardous waste and materials from contractors.


West Allis

The West Allis Municipal Yard at 6300 W. McGeoch Ave. will be open Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for at least two weeks to allow residents to dispose of flood damage-related debris with no fee.

Flood-damaged items are also being picked up in usual garbage collection spots, though officials ask that regular garbage and recycling be separated from storm-damaged items.
