DNC officials visiting Milwaukee, city among finalists to host 2020 convention

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is feeling optimistic about Milwaukee's chances of hosting the Democratic National Convention in 2020.

"I think Milwaukee's close. Houston's close. I think we're the two lead contenders right now," Mayor Barrett said Monday.

DNC officials are in Milwaukee for the second time in four months. Officials will tour Fiserv Forum, the Wisconsin Center, and area hotels.

The Mayor says hosting the DNC would put Milwaukee in the national spotlight.

"We have a great story to tell and we're a swing state, so there's every reason in the world for them to be here," said Mayor Barrett. "We want to show the country what an incredible renaissance is happening in the City of Milwaukee right now.

Miami Beach and Houston are vying to host the convention. An announcement is expected sometime this winter.
