DNR reports elevated fire danger across Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is asking the public to stay vigilant and avoid all outdoor burning this weekend due to elevated fire danger across the state.

According to the DNR, 35 fires have burned approximately 300 acres on Saturday, April 13, the single most active wildfire day this year.

The forecast suggests another active fire day for Sunday, April 14. Fire danger is anticipated to reach "very high."

Here are some fire safety tips from the DNR:

  • Avoid outdoor burning until conditions improve.
  • Operate equipment (chainsaws, off-road vehicles, lawnmowers, etc.) early in the morning or late in the day to avoid sparks at peak burn hours.
  • Secure dragging trailer chains.
  • Report fires early and call 911.
