Early morning fire in Milwaukee does $300,000 damage to north side building
MILWAUKEE, WI (CBS 58) -- Nearly $300,000 damage was done to a residential/commercial building in an early morning fire on Milwaukee’s north side. The fire was reported just after 3 AM in a 2.5 story wood frame building at N 18th and W Center Streets. The building had residential apartments above and a business below.
According to the Milwaukee Fire Department, the fire began in the attic and then spread to the second and first floors of the building. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
The residents of the building were able to get out unharmed. The Red Cross was called to assist them with living arrangements.
The damage is estimated at $190,000 to the building and $100,000 to its contents. There were no working smoke detectors in the structure.
