Expect heavy traffic heading north Friday afternoon/evening for the Packers game
MILWAUKEE -- There's no doubt there will be a lot of people headed north to Green Bay for the Packers third preseason game. It is a gold package game eating many people from the Milwaukee area will be heading up to the game.
The DOT is helping drivers out today. I-43 N. near the northern Ozaukee County line will be fully open. They opened it just a few minutes ago for people heading north. The main problem was near County Highway LL in that area.
Anyone who went north for Packers family night remembers the traffic problems in that area. It was two lanes down to one which really slowed people heading north.
The DOT also warns people that they still need to give a little bit of extra time because of some other construction near Green Bay around Lambeau Field.
If you're getting ready to pack up and head up to Green Bay just be ready for a high volume of traffic.
\"Any Friday afternoon during the summer has some back ups regardless of lane closures or not,\" Wisconsin DOT spokesperson Brian DeNeve said. \"Just headed up north a lot of the Illinois folks headed up to enjoy what northern wisconsin has to offer, door county. That's only exacerbated a little bit by packers events.\"
Coming back home to the Milwaukee area you will go down to one lane in that same area in northern Ozaukee County near Fredonia.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region in Green Bay is reminding motorists heading to Lambeau Field on Friday, August 22 for the Green Bay Packers/Oakland Raider football game that US 41 and adjacent roadways from Oneida Street north to Suamico are under construction. The US 41/WIS 172 interchange could experience significant backups on both north and south US 41 and east and west WIS 172. Closures, orange barrels, narrow lanes, soft shoulders and increased volume from Friday commuter and recreational traffic in addition to game day traffic WILL affect game day travel. Due to all the construction, Ashland Avenue through De Pere and Ashwaubenon will also experience increased traffic congestion as additional motorists use this as an alternate route.
WisDOT STRONGLY recommends motorists allow themselves additional time to reach their destinations and check WisDOT’s 511 website. Additionally, motorists are advised to remain alert and plan on exercising patience as they drive through the Green Bay area.
Here is a list of the major roads in northeast Wisconsin most Packers fans will be traveling as they head for the game and the road conditions they should anticipate:
