Eye on AI: Make AI complete your to-do list

WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Not all artificial intelligence has world-changing ramifications. You can use it right now to make some of life's little tasks a little easier. CBS 58 Morning News anchor Mike Curkov shows how you don't need to know much to harness the power of AI.

Curkov used Chat GPT and MindTrip.AI to knock a few things off his to-do list.

  • Plan dinner for the week
  • Write a birthday card
  • Plan a trip Up North

First: Plan Dinner for the Week

Simply go to ChatGPT.com in your web browser, you don't even need the app, and type in what you want. Curkov typed 'Make me a dinner plan for 5 days for a family of four, no gluten.' Seconds later a full meal plan appeared:

You can amend your request by typing 'no onions' or 'include a homemade pizza' and the AI will adapt to your changes. Once you have something that looks good. Type 'make a shopping list' and it'll build a grocery list for you based on what you'll need.

Next: Write a Birthday Card for My Wife

Stick with Chat GPT for this and just type in a new prompt. 'Write a birthday card for my wife.'

At first, the AI came up with a three-paragraph love letter. Very nice, but too long. A 'make it shorter' prompt came up with this:

"Dear [Wife's Name],

Happy Birthday to the most incredible woman in my life. Your love brightens every day, and I feel so lucky to share this journey with you. Here's to many more beautiful birthdays together.

With all my love,

[Your Name]"

You could then add 'She loves Shakespeare' or 'Bluey-themed' or 'Make it funny' and the AI will again adapt to your wishes.

Lastly: Plan a Trip Up North

For this, Curkov tried using a newer program call MindTrip.AI. Again, not an app. Just go to MindTrip.AI in your web browser. Curkov typed, 'Plan a 3-day trip to northwest Wisconsin for a family of four, two kids under ten, include Amnicon Falls.' The AI immediately produced an itinerary including hotels and things to do each day. After some tweaks like 'plan on driving from Milwaukee' and 'add one short stop on our drive to Superior and more activities in Duluth' this is what MindTrip came up with:

Day 1: Journey from Milwaukee to Superior with a Stop at Carson Park

Begin your adventure with a drive from Milwaukee to Superior. About halfway, stop at Carson Park in Eau Claire for a short break. The park offers beautiful views and a perfect picnic spot. Continue your journey to Superior, check into your accommodation at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Superior and if time permits, visit the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center.

Day 2: Adventure at Amnicon Falls State Park

After breakfast at your hotel, drive to Amnicon Falls State Park for a day of outdoor fun. Enjoy the majestic waterfalls and scenic trails, perfect for a family hike. Don't forget to pack a picnic to enjoy by the falls!

Day 3: Exploring Duluth and Return to Milwaukee

Start your day with a visit to the Great Lakes Aquarium. Afterward, head to the Duluth Children's Museum for some interactive fun. For lunch, try some local flavors at Duluth Grill. Post lunch, take a leisurely stroll along the Duluth Waterfront or visit the Lake Superior Zoo if time permits. Then, embark on your return drive to Milwaukee.

This revised itinerary includes a short stop during your drive and more activities in Duluth. Please let me know if there are any other changes or additions you would like to make.

You can ask it to make more stops, include more hiking, or baseball or brewery tours. Whatever you like. Once it's done, there are links to all the relevant sites to make your reservations.

Of course, after your vacation, you'll have hundreds of pictures on your phone. Some kind of AI to sort through your photos and make a photobook would be nice. JourniApp seems like a good start but, like many options at the moment, it needs quite a bit of human intelligence to tweak it.
