Fire in West Allis leads to hospitalization and pet rescue
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Responders believe a candle left burning unattended ignited a residential fire near 71st and Orchard on Sunday, Jan. 28 in West Allis, resulting in one person being hospitalized.
West Allis Fire Department officials say that the fire took place in a 2.5-story home.
The fire department was reportedly alerted to the fire a little before 9:30 p.m. and arrived at the scene within three minutes. Officials confirmed fire showing from the second story windows upon arrival. The fire was contained within 10 minutes, and a search confirmed no occupants were trapped inside.
One person, however, was transported to Columbia Saint Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee for burn injuries.
Two pets were rescued from the site, but their current condition remains unconfirmed, as stated by West Allis Fire Department officials.
A report from WAFD says that the property is currently deemed uninhabitable. The fire damage was limited to one room on the second floor and a part of the attic, though the entire structure sustained water and smoke damage.
