Free classes to improve balance and safety being offered in Waukesha
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry Dept. is offering two free classes aimed at improving safety and balance for adults 55 and over.
Beginning Sept. 22, on Fridays, a falls prevention class will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Schuetze Recreation Center. Starting Sept. 12, a "Ballroom Basics for Balance" class will run from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Rotary Building.
Pre-registration is required.
The "Stepping On" class covers balance training, safe footwear, medication effects and home and community safety.
The "Ballroom Basics for Balance" class includes lessons in various dances, aiming to improve balance and teach preventative skills through dance movement.
Both programs are part of the department's efforts to reduce fall-related hospitalizations and mortality rates.
