CBS 58's Hometown Athlete: 3 Contreras sisters power Pius XI Lady Popes varsity softball
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- "I'm Karina Contreras and I'm a senior at Pius XI Catholic High School," senior sister Karina Contreras says.
"I'm Amanda Contreras," junior sister Amanda Contreras says.
"Hi, I'm Rebecca Contreras," sophomore sister Rebecca Contreras says.
Three sisters, all on Pius XI varsity softball.
With Karina the senior catcher, CBS 58 Sports Director Lance Allan asks, "Are you the wisest?"
"100 percent, yes!" Karina Contreras says.
Amanda is the junior third baseman.
"I think it's fun for warm-ups, and just always being in the dugout with them," Amanda Contreras says. "And obviously we drive everywhere together. To school, from school. To practice. So, it's always a good time to like, make more experiences with them."
And Rebecca is the sophomore left fielder.
"A lot of times it doesn't even feel like they're my sisters," Rebecca Contreras says. "They're just like my built-in best friends. And I think that like, I just look back some days and I'm like, this is just so insane that I like, have the chance to be able to be on the team with both of my sisters."
It's these moments, and the banter, that they cherish.
"Game days are the best," Rebecca Contreras says.
"I do our hair," Amanda Contreras says. "So, we usually do matching hair. And I think that's just a cool way to like, connect with each other."
"When I was in eighth grade, and they were a freshman and sophomore, I just kind of felt like, disconnected, because I was just still in middle school and they were all the way in Milwaukee with each other," Rebecca Contreras says.
The sisters play the left side of the field, hoping for an all-Contreras play.
"I never even thought about that," Karina Contreras says. "But you know, maybe we'll have a good, you know, rundown from left field. Maybe even a nice play at home. We'll see."
And the memories will last a lifetime.
"It will definitely be a story at the dinner table," Karina Contreras says. "But I think it's very unique. And I really love having both my sisters on the team."
