Golfing fore good: Elkhorn fundraiser to raise awareness and funds for juvenile diabetes
ELKHORN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Halbesma family is golfing FORE a good cause. For the fourth year in a row, they're hosting the Halbesma Family Juvenile Diabetes Research Fundraiser. It will take place at Evergreen Golf Club in Elkhorn on Friday, Aug. 11. A shotgun start will take place on the green at 1 p.m., and you have to purchase tickets ahead of time.
Juvenile Diabetes is a cause close to the Halbesma family's hearts. At just 10 years old, Isabel Halbesma was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
"I remember the doctor telling me you have diabetes and thinking 'that’s a bad thing.'" said Isabel Halbesma.
She's learned to embrace her diagnosis, and she recognizes that, because of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, there could soon be a cure.
"We just need the money, the fundraising, and I feel like it can happen in the next couple of years. So, that’s why we’re doing this" she said.
Tickets are $100. It includes a round of golf and a steak dinner. There will also be raffles and fun for families to come out and support the cause.
