Gracias Christmas Cantata to bring opera, musical and choir to Milwaukee 🌟

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A unique stage performance is aiming to "convey the true meaning of Christmas" in Milwaukee in September.

Miller High Life Theatre will host the 2023 Gracias Christmas Cantata on Saturday, Sept. 16.

Presented by the Gracias Choir, the performance will begin at 7 p.m. and includes three distinct acts: an opera depicting the birth of Baby Jesus, a musical featuring “The Little Match Girl” and a chorus presentation of G.F. Handel’s Oratorio “Messiah.”

This event, part of a nationwide tour, offers a blend of cherished carols and classical songs. The 2022 tour was seen by over 150,000 Americans in 25 cities. Notably, the Gracias Choir has won awards at various international choir competitions.

Among these recognitions are the top prize at the 14th International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf in Germany, Grand Prize at the 13th Concorso Corale Internazionale Riva del Garda, First Prize at the 2014 Montreux Choral Festival in Switzerland and Grand Prize at the 2009 Jeju International Choir Competition in Korea.
