'Graduating alone is very important to us': Cristo Rey graduate heads to Yale University
MILWUAKEE (CBS 58) -- A young woman who's about to graduate from Milwaukee's Cristo Rey Jesuit High School is headed for Yale University.
Her name is Yoseline Magana, she'll be the salutatorian at graduation, and she's participated in just about every activity her school has to offer.
"I think that this can serve as an example for future generations of students who also wish to attend Ivy Leagues," said Magana.
Magana is proud of her achievement, obviously, and she's proud of her school.
Cristo Rey, on Milwaukee's southside, has now had seven consecutive senior classes in which every student has been accepted into colleges.
"A lot of students who graduate from here come from underserved communities," said Magana. "So, I think just graduating alone is a very important deal for us, because a lot of the time a lot of the graduates are the first in their families to go to college."
"But also, in general to go to high school. So, it's something that I very much consider a very important part of my identity."
Yoseline Magana plans to study political science at Yale. She plans to become an attorney and help underserved people.
