Great Water Alliance project, bringing Lake Michigan water to Waukesha, nears completion

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A date has been set for the celebration of a historic project delivering Lake Michigan water from Milwaukee to Waukesha.

It was almost three years ago that ground was broken for one of the pumping stations in Milwaukee. But the pipeline project is now just about finished.

The project is called the Great Water Alliance and Waukesha's transition to Lake Michigan water will happen in mid-September. But the city plans a celebration on Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Waukesha Booster Pumping Station on E. Broadway.

When Waukesha starts receiving water from the lake, it will then return treated water to the Root River.
