MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Hunger Task Force is kicking off their Milwaukee Summer Meals program Wednesday, June 25.
Stark Playfield, on the city's north side, was the site of the launch.
The citywide collaboration is predicted to serve more than a half-million free meals to kids and teens 18 and under.
A number of community leaders were on hand to talk about the need for nutritious foods for young people during the summer.
"It's important for my kids, so they can have something to do for the summer instead of being at home, bored, not doing anything," said Ebony Joe, mother.
"It's great for the community. Some people don't know that it's free to the community. Just come in, have a seat, get a free meal and share the venues," Tania Ramsey, of Hunger Task Force, said.
Free meals will be served at 180 sites from now through mid-August.
