PEWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- This past winter, Wisconsin has not been a skiers or snowboarders paradise, but one hometown venue found a way to keep the slopes open, virtually.
Urban Slopes in Pewaukee opened their virtual ski and snowboard slopes in 2021.
The slopes are operated with simulated machines, projecting different ski and snowboard courses.
Urban Slopes was opened by Jared Masters, who said he wanted to bring the winter sport to Wisconsin all year round.
"I just enjoy skiing," said Masters.
And while you're not actually ripping fresh powder, the machines allow you to ski or snowboard at the Olympic level.
"It’s a machine that was designed and utilized by the U.S. ski team, for their off-season training and also rehab, recovery too," said Masters.
something long time snowboarder and employee of Urban Slopes Kenneth Grogan appreciates.
"You can hop on the machine and it's just you and the run, and you can get your turns in, and kind of forget about the outside world while you're here," said Kenneth Grogan Experience Manager at Urban Slopes.
Urban Slopes is offering a ski and snowboard league. The last day to sign up is May 25.
