'Keep saying his name': 5 years after he was shot, widow pleads for community help in finding husband's killer
OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS58) — On Oct. 30 of this year, it will have been five years since Joshua Terry was found murdered on the side of I-43, and there's still no lead on the person who did it.
"He was my happily ever after," said Renee Terry, widow.
Joshua Terry and his wife, Renee Terry, were together for 10 years.
"He was just funny and very affectionate, but he was also a really good friend," said Terry.
Their love story was cut short when he went for an evening drive.
"The life you had planned together is instantly gone," said Terry.
Drone footage shows the route Terry was driving on I-43 and North Woods Road when officers believe his white Kia Optima made contact with another car.
"I was getting worried, but I was blowing up his phone with texts and calls and thinking his car was older maybe he had a flat tire," Terry explained.
According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, both cars pulled over to the side of the road when the unthinkable happened.
"It wasn't until morning that I found out he was shot," said Terry.
Throughout the years, tips have come in on possible suspects.
"We do have some evidence and like the sheriff said several good leads and persons of interest that we have investigated thoroughly however to date we have not been able to connect our evidence to any particular person," said Lt. Mike Buechler, former lead detective of the case.
Ozaukee County Sheriff Christy Knowles says this is a challenging case; on that stretch of highway there's no lighting, and no cameras.
"We are going back to where Josh came from and trying to find camera footage and our best information that way," said Knowles.
With the five-year anniversary approaching they want the community to step forward.
"I want people to keep saying his name. Don't stop talking about him. I really want this solved and I want some closure, not having closure is really difficult," said Terry.
Terry says she won't stop until she gets her husband the justice he deserves.
"I will always have his back," said Terry.
The Ozaukee Sheriff's Office says if you know of anything, if someone you know was acting different or had damage to their car around the time this happened to come forward.
There's a $15,000 reward for any tip that leads to an arrest.
