Lauren Holiday inducted into National Soccer Hall of Fame

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Lauren Holiday is known as the wife of Milwaukee Bucks point guard, Jrue Holiday, but make no mistake, she is an accomplished athlete with an amazing story all her own.

Over the weekend, Lauren Holiday shared that she was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

"It was single handedly the hardest thing I ever had to go through," Holiday said.

Holiday played on the 2015 team that won the women's World Cup for America. She also won two Olympic gold medals.

At her induction ceremony, Holiday told us the story of how she was diagnosed with a brain tumor six years ago, while she was pregnant with the couple's daughter.

Holiday says her soccer training and her religious faith helped her get through that difficult time.

"And I would repeat Psalm 30, Verse 5, 'There may be pain in the night, but joy comes in the morning'. And each time I repeated this to myself, I found the strength to keep going," said Holiday.

In September of 2016, Holiday delivered her baby and four weeks later, she had surgery to remove what turned out to be a benign tumor.

These days, she and Jrue run a foundation that supports Black-led nonprofit organizations in Milwaukee and other cities.
