PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Introducing a new partner to children can be a complex transition, particularly after divorce or remarriage. Sarah Hall, owner of The Goddard School of Pleasant Prairie, joined us on Wednesday, March 12 to offer tips for taking a slow and thoughtful approach to help children adjust.
She suggested ensuring a new partner will be a lasting presence before involving children. Meeting in a low-pressure setting and allowing children to engage at their own pace can also ease the transition.
Children may react in different ways, from excitement to resistance. Hall says parents should prepare for various responses, keep communication open and give children space to express their feelings and allow the process to unfold naturally.
