MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As students return to the classroom this academic year, fostering productive parent-teacher collaboration will be vital. Teacher Jen Davis from the Goddard School of Pleasant Prairie highlighted this issue when she joined us on Tuesday, July 18.
Parents are advised to share pertinent family changes or specific interests of their child, helping teachers understand individual student behaviors.
Preparation for parent-teacher meetings is key, with an emphasis on staying informed about classroom updates and having pertinent questions ready. An important aspect of these conversations is responding to teacher concerns without defensiveness, creating a collaborative environment for the child's benefit.
Additionally, understanding the teacher's perspective on the child's strengths and challenges allows parents to offer more targeted support at home.
Positive and frequent dialogue between parents and teachers promotes a constructive and encouraging atmosphere for students. More details on these strategies were shared by Davis.
